Why check the register?
In India only a SEBI-registered investment adviser may give you personalised investment advice for a fee. A registration number starts with INA followed by nine digits. If someone charging you for advice can't give you one that appears here, treat the advice with caution, and always confirm the registration on SEBI's own website, sebi.gov.in.
Adviser or research analyst?
An investment adviser gives you advice suited to your own money, goals and risk, for a fee. A research analyst publishes research reports and buy or sell recommendations on stocks. Some firms hold both registrations.
